History Walk and Talk

History Walk and Talk

The drizzle didn’t dampen spirits and we enjoyed walking and talking

WPCA and Islington Council teamed up to organize a local history walk on Saturday 7 October, 2017.  Twenty local residents turned up for a friendly Walk and Talk session, met old and new neighbours and learnt about our area.  Sue Sinton Smith, our guide, took us on a tour which included Whittington Park, Davenant Road, Landseer Road, Manor Gardens, Tufnell Park Road, Campdale Road and Foxham Road and the parks en route.  The drizzle didn’t dampen our spirits and we all enjoyed spending a couple of hours walking and talking!

Did you know that

  • Islington has the second lowest ratio of green space to people of all the London boroughs;
  • There were prefabs in Foxham Gardens up till the early 1980s;
  • Davenant Road is named after Sir William Davenant, a 17th Century poet and dramatist
  • The Beaux Arts Building was built by the Post Office;
  • The Royal Northern Hospital was the first in London to install piped music.

“Really enjoyable and good to find so many people interested in the history of the area.”
