Weekly Arts & Crafts Group Attends Cally Festival

On Sunday 8 September, the arts & crafts group (that meets every week at the community centre on Wednesdays to make textile crafts) held a stall at the ever popular Cally Festival.  There were over 100 stalls at the event with several thousands of people attended.  The sales from the stall went to support the group who is currently not funded and relies on such activities for financial support.  Find out more here about the group and how to join:

WPCA Archive Officially Handed Over to the Bishopsgate Institute

Courtney Shapiro (WPCA Chair) signing with Stefan Dickers (Bishopsgate Institute Library and Archives Manager)
On Thursday 22 August the WPCA Archive was officially handed over to the Bishopsgate Institute.  Ann Mason (WPCA Centre Manager), Katia Lom (WPCA Project Development and Administration Assistant), Courtney Shapiro (WPCA Chair), Tom Hope (WPCA founding member in 1970s) and Stefan Dickers (Bishopsgate Institute Library and Archives Manager) were in attendance.  It was a very proud moment for WPCA! The archive will be made available to all members of the public to come and see for free.  Many of its photographs will also be made available to view online.  WPCA's archive photography exhibition continues to be on permanent display at the community centre and the September issue of the "Journal of Islington Archaeology and History Society" will feature an article on its history. If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact Katia directly who has developed this project at 0207 272 1847 /

Lunch Club Members in Art Exhibition at Cubitt Gallery

Three of our Lunch Club for Over 60's members were selected to take part in an exhibition "Someday is Today" at Cubitt Gallery near Angel.  Nan, Irene and Ann all went to the opening on 16 July and the show was on until 28 July.  All three regularly take part in our free art classes on Fridays (11:30am to 2:30pm) at the community centre.  The show was a wonderful way for them to share their work.
