The team

ANN MASON, Centre Manager

Ann joined the centre in April 2012.  She has a fondness for projects based on the edge of parks as her previous role was managing a community arts centre in Burgess Park, Southwark.  She brings a mix of both commercial and community development experience to the role.   Before she moved fulltime into community based work she managed the UK subsidiary of a European IT services group.

LOAN TRAN, Project DevelopmentA_081

Loan volunteered with us in 2013 and helped launch our first Big Day Out.  She has been living in Holloway for over 17 years and enjoys being part of community groups whether it’s the PTA at her children’s schools or a campaign which she cares about like ‘School Meals Matter – Islington’.  She wants to help WPCA get the building renovations it needs and organize fun fundraising events for the community along the way.

JOANNA DELLER, Reception and Hall hire

Joanna successfully completed an apprenticeship with us in 2012 and has trained in book keeping and finance.    Visitors to the centre and everyone who comes to hire space here can be sure of a warm welcome from her at reception.  She’s the first port of call when people visit the centre and makes sure that everyone gets the help they need so  their class or event goes well.

SAM WAKELIN, Early Years Hub Coordinator

Sam joined us in January 2015 and coordinates the Childminders Service in the morning and the Stay and Play drop-in session at the Early Years Hub in the park.
Before joining us she was deputy manager in a private day nursery and a teaching assistant at Yerbury School.  She has lived and worked in the local community for over 20 years.

CATHERINE GARDNER, Lead Practitioner,
Whittington Park Community Nursery

Catherine leads our nursery team.  She has set up and equipped
our nursery and made it a warm and welcoming space.  She holds a PGCE in Early Childhood and prior to becoming a teacher she practised law and also studied psychology.  She has trained in the Forest School approach and is keen to use the park and nursery garden to help children learn and enjoy outdoor space as part of their learning through play and outdoor activities.

JOAN CATON, Early Years Education Worker,

Whittington Park Community Nursery

Joan has over 35 years experience working with children both in
nurseries and in youthrsz_p1060465 work. She is particularly experienced in working in community and multi-cultural settings.  Before joining us she worked as a nursery manager in the local area.  She has experience of Forest School and is looking forward to working with Catherine to include this in the nursery’s activities from the start.

Charlotte has lived in Holloway for 20 years and is the proud mother of her young
daughter.  She’s a health freak and loves healthy food and going to the gym.  She loves spending time with family and friends.

ALEXANDER SCHMIDT, Over 60s Lunch club Coordinator

Alex has worked in the voluntary sector for over 20 years and particularly enjoys developing new projects which bring people together whether it’s our over 55s mens club or our community garden project.  He loves music and the arts and created his own radio tribute to Prince when he died in 2016.

GARY WATSON, Co-Premises Manager2016_Xmas_210

Gary first came to the area  when he was four and a half when his family moved to
Wedmore Street.  He went to Yerbury School and has a long connection with WPCA as he and Martin used to come to WPCA’s Youth Club and the WPCA festivals in the seventies.  He and Martin look after our buildings and venue hirers and make sure everything is in place for them.

MARTIN BARRETT, Co-Premises Manager P1070365

Martin has lived locally all his life and as a child went to Grafton Primary school, nearby.  As well as looking after our buildings and hallhirers he is Premises Assistant at Tufnell Park Primary School.  Martin loves restoration projects and has restored several old cars.  He is currently working on a ‘broad’s cruiser’ (aka a boat!) which he hopes to restore to good working order and relax on.
