COURTNEY SHAPIRO, Chair

Courtney is a local parent who has 20 years’ experience working with Accountants, Management Consultants and Insurance Brokers in the city within bid management, new business and design.

 

JOHN PURCELL, Vice Chair rsz_1p1060368[1]

John’s long involvement with WPCA began when his children used to go to the After School Club.   Trained in carpentry and joinery, he has his own business and uses his practical knowledge to make a valuable contribution to everything to do with buildings and premises at WPCA.

 

JOHN UDEN, Treasurer

A local resident for 24 years, originally from Lancashire, John has been a trustee of Whittington Park Community Association for 11 years. Prior to this, he was chair of governors of the local Yerbury primary school for 8 years.  John trained as a regional planner and has worked in various public and voluntary sector organisations until he retired this year.  He is a frequent visitor, volunteering as a high-speed leafleteer and canvasser.  He enjoys cycle touring, long-distance walking and sailing.  His daughter Eleanor is a primary school teacher in Peckham and his son Tom is currently on a postgraduate course at Xiamen University in China.

 

ELIZABETH CASE, Secretary

Liz brings her marketing and best practice skills, coupled with a wider community volunteer experience as a parent governor at Yerbury School and a trustee of Friends of Whittington Park.

 

JANET BURGESS MBE

Janet has lived in Tytherton Road since 1988 and has been involved with the Centre for over 25 years. She is Councillor for Junction Ward and Deputy Leader of the Council; Chair of Governors at Hargrave Park School; Vice Chair of Governors at Yerbury School; and Chair of Friends of Tufnell Park Playing Fields.  Her role on the Council is to promote health and wellbeing, and she considers that centres like WPCA are vital in providing services to all sections of the community, from toddlers in the nursery to older people in the lunch club.  Her ambition for the future is that the Centre should reach more isolated people and offer a welcoming and healthy experience.

 

BEATRICE COKER

Beatrice has lived in Islington for over 30 years.  She lives locally and has been a trustee at WPCA for 9 years.  On turning 60 she became the Lunch Club for over 60s representative on the board.  She was a nurse for 30 years and has always been a community activist.  She volunteered for SureStart and is a member of both Islington and  Greater London Pensioners Forum and the Link.  She has three children and three grandchildren.

 

GHIZELA MODOODghizela

Ghizela’s media and event management experience ranges from journalism to production and location management.  She has worked on a broad range of TV and radio programming for BBC, C4, ITV, Sky, independent production companies and international TV and radio stations.   Her specialist experience is in live events, music/arts documentaries and archive based programming with projects involving multiple stakeholders, complex logistics and sensitive situations.

ALISON RUDDOCK

Alison has been a supporter of WPCA since the 70’s.  She was particularly involved in managing the Centre’s adventure playground in the late 70’s and early 80’s.  She lives locally and her children were regular users.  She brings valuable experience from her work in local government with children and her roles have included Head of Play Service (Hammersmith and Fulham) and Head of Early Years from 1994-2011 at Islington Council.
